This is by far one of the students favorite projects of the year. I'm always blown away at the creativity and hard work the students put into these projects. We culminated the project with a gallery day--the Spanish class came to our class for hot cider, popcorn and art viewing and in turn we visited their classroom for hot chocolate and to view the alter pieces they had created. So much fun!

Embracing the elements of art, shape, form, value and color, students created art work that shows value change, giving the illusion of form.
Wow, these students really embraced this project and had some fun! The idea was to print out a black and white photo, cut the hair off of the photo and then glue it to paper. Now the fun begins...students were encouraged to design the hair thinking about line, shape and color.
I love the way these Picasso inspired still life projects turned out! Mixed Media using charcoal (white and black) and collage elements.
Each class period, students have a sketchbook prompt that is worked on during the first 10-15 minutes of class. Today the students had so much fun on this prompt that I thought I would share some of their drawings/paintings. The prompt was to sketch a face using sharpie and watercolor. So much creativity in 15 minutes!
To get the creative juices flowing, we started off the year with some blind contour face drawings and then the students made contour wire sculptures--adding some manipulated paper to the wire. I think these turned out amazing--way to embrace the project AP! Below are a few of the finished works:
Our classroom is beautiful and ready for the new school year! We are so fortunate that a former Cypress parent donated all materials and time to give our art room a facelift. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Alan! If you need any organization you should show http://elementsmfg.com/ some love.
Graduation is always so bittersweet. We are so very proud of all of these kids and their accomplishments but we are going to sincerely miss them. Here are some pics of the big day.
The art class lead a trip to Europe! We had so much fun and learned so much. We visited Paris, The French Rivera, Florence, Sienna and Rome. Definitely a trip of a lifetime. Next year we will travel to London--ask Mrs. Mort or Megan for details.

Meet Mrs. Mort
So excited to enter my 4th year at Cypress Charter H.S.! This is my 15th year of teaching high school art. Before teaching my sole career was painting--that of course was loads of fun but I find much more joy in passing on my love of art to my students. When I'm not in the classroom, you will find me hiking, traveling, spending time with family, making something and drinking tea...lots of tea. If you are on campus, stop in and say hello. Archives
