We are in full swing of creating drawing portfolios. So far we have covered one-point perspective, two-point perspective and now we are drawing still life with charcoal. Students are learning how to evaluate light and dark, evaluate proportions and creating space using a back-ground, middle-ground and fore-ground. We have studied still-life drawings from Cezanne as inspiration. Charcoal is a wonderful medium that allows easy access to value change and is very forgiving when changes need to be made. It's also very messy--some students don't like the feel of the charcoal on their hands but they are troopers and are plugging along. The next step will be to create our still life drawings on black paper with chalk pastel. We will then be ending the drawing portfolio unit with studying facial proportions. As always...very impressed with these young students.

Meet Mrs. Mort
So excited to enter my 4th year at Cypress Charter H.S.! This is my 15th year of teaching high school art. Before teaching my sole career was painting--that of course was loads of fun but I find much more joy in passing on my love of art to my students. When I'm not in the classroom, you will find me hiking, traveling, spending time with family, making something and drinking tea...lots of tea. If you are on campus, stop in and say hello. Archives
