The students are hard at work on their wire/paper/tape/plaster sculptures. There are so many creative ideas incorporated into each of the students works. They love the sculpture unit!

The weather has been wonderful and the students have made their way outside for some still-life drawings. Our garden is such a wonderful place to gather inspiration...thanks to the Mitchell family!
We had a fabulous visit to Hakone Estate & Gardens in Saratoga, CA. The AP Art Students were treated to a traditional tea ceremony, Kimono ceremony and a docent tour of the gardens.
We started the school year off with a team building art project. Our inspiration was Alexander Calder's mobiles. Students were paired up into groups of 4. Each student completed at least 4 geometric shapes using oil pastels for the medium. Together they brainstormed and created a hanging mobile. It was great seeing the students work together and make new friends. The mobiles turned out wonderful and the room looked so festive. Unfortunately the motion sensor in the room made the school alarm go off so we had to take them down. The students were encouraged to take these home and hang them in their rooms.

Meet Mrs. Mort
So excited to enter my 4th year at Cypress Charter H.S.! This is my 15th year of teaching high school art. Before teaching my sole career was painting--that of course was loads of fun but I find much more joy in passing on my love of art to my students. When I'm not in the classroom, you will find me hiking, traveling, spending time with family, making something and drinking tea...lots of tea. If you are on campus, stop in and say hello. Archives
